Celebrating the World Environment Day

On June 11, 2017, the World Environment Day (WED) was honored and celebrated as the ‎”World Environment Week” using the popular quote of the year “I am with Nature.” in the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL) Afghanistan. The most remarkable part of the event was to sign the agreement through which Kol-e-Hashmat Khan Bird Sanctuary was officially ascertained and announced as one of the ‘Fourth Protected Areas/Parks’ of Afghanistan. The program was started by a speech of Mr. Mustafa Zahir, General Director of NEPA through welcoming the audiences. He stated about the date and the theme of the current year. Then he spoke about Kol-e-Hashmat Khan and other protected areas such as; Band-e-Amir Park in Bamyan, Wakhakn Park in Badakhshan, and Shah Fuladi Valley in Bamyan including the percentage of lands Afghanistan should determine as protected lands. Mentioning the environment significances, he asked collaboration from the CSOs and other governmental and non-governmental relevant organs to be keen in protecting the environment. Following him, Mr. Asadullah Zamir, the Minister of MAIL started his speech by congratulating World Environment Week and the aim behind celebrating it that as he mentioned it is to notify the environmental challenges and solutions for them. He requested every individual person to take care of environment. In his speech he considered Kol-e-Hashmat Khan as not only a national wealth but also a real wealth for the entire world. In that part of the event, the agreement was signed and Kol-e-Hashmat Khan Bird Sanctuary was officially announced as the fourth protected land/area in Afghanistan.  By the end of the event, Mr. Abdul Wali Modaqeq, the Deputy Director of International Relations Policy of NEPA in Afghanistan, gave his speech on detailed information about Kol-e-Hashmat Khan. Then the event was closed by an environmental exhibition in which the active governmental and nongovernmental organizations including Afghanistan Young Greens (AYG) exhibited their products that was widely appreciated and attracted by the audiences.
